Tyler Hubbard

Tyler Hubbard's face and name are very familiar - and his voice is a staple on country music radio. He's accumulated 19 No. 1 hits with songs now woven into the fabric of pop culture. However, he's never made a project bearing his name – telling his story – until now.

Hubbard cruised into country music a decade ago as the lead singer of multi-platinum selling duo Florida Georgia Line. The pair had hits including "Cruise," "H.O.L.Y." and "Meant To Be." While there's still plenty of fun and lighthearted music on Tyler's debut project, there's also a depth that comes with growing up. Tyler was a 24-year-old when FGL took off.  Now he’s a married father of three. "I do hope that the FGL fans will hear this and know I'm still there for them," Tyler says.

"I'm thankful for the last 10 years to be known as one half of FGL," Tyler says. "There's a lot more layers to who I am. As a duo partner, you are respectful of one another's stories and stick to common ground. I wanted to make music that let the fans into my life and who I am on a little bit deeper level."

Dancin’ In The Country is a six-song project that will come out August 19, and includes Tyler’s debut solo single, "5 Foot 9." But making a solo project was never part of Tyler's plan. As a songwriter who has had more than 100 songs recorded by artists including FGL, Jason Aldean, Chris Tomlin, Zac Brown and Kane Brown, Tyler thought he could be happy as a songwriter for other artists. And he was, but the more Tyler wrote, the more he realized he had many songs that were important to telling his own story, though his music.

“The majority of songs on this project came from the last couple of years of writing, but I was in a different headspace then.  I believed I was writing for other artists – I’m passionate about songwriting,” says Hubbard.  “I would write and get the demos back and realize that I love these songs and that there is a part of me in them – whether it was a lyric or a melody, there was something I connected with on a more personal level.”

When Tyler decided that he needed to be the one to tell the stories he’d written as a solo artist, he was at a place where he felt alone, unequipped and unsupported. He didn't have the necessary resources or team around him, and he couldn't visualize what his career looked like moving forward. He knew he needed help if he was going to pursue a solo career.

"I was like, 'God, if this is what you want me to do, then I need you to put some people in my life to help me navigate this and make decisions,’" says the Georgia native.

Shortly after, he met the man who would become his manager.  Tyler and veteran manager Gary Borman had a mutual connection and vision, and Tyler says they were "off to the races."

"With Gary and the entire Borman Entertainment team surrounding me, I went from not feeling supported to never feeling more supported in my career," Tyler says. "It felt amazing and inspired me to change my mind, and I started telling writers, 'We're going to write for me. I'm going to put out an album.'"

Nine months later, Tyler was ready to release his debut solo project. He co-wrote all the songs.

"I really set out to write this project for the fans and country radio who have allowed us to do what we love," Tyler says. "I wanted to make a country album that was authentic to who I am. I’m a husband, father, and man of faith, and these things all shape the stories that I am telling through my music as a solo artist. I want to represent where I am today and where I’ve been as well.”

Tyler’s debut single, “5 Foot 9,” was inspired by the simple things in life, and his love for wife Hayley, even though she's a bit taller. Hubbard wrote "5 Foot 9" with Jaren Johnston and Chase McGill, and the song is driven by finger-picked acoustic guitar with lyrics about appreciating the good stuff money can't buy. "5 Foot 9" sets the tone for the six-song Dancin’ In The Country collection, which swings a wide berth from traditional to contemporary.  And helps give fans a better understanding of Tyler’s journey to releasing solo music.

The collection was also put together to compliment Tyler’s signature high-energy performance style which he’ll take on the road this fall with Keith Urban. “I chose these songs for my live set on the road with Keith Urban this fall. These songs were all conceived to play live and can’t wait for them to come out ahead of the tour and the album. I can't wait to take them on tour," he says.

"Inside And Out" is about where true beauty lies and is a lesson he often tells his wife and kids. "I really want to get that song out to the masses because I know there are people out there who maybe haven't heard that about themselves," he says. "Maybe even if it's just at the show, they can think that about themselves and see the beauty inside."

Tyler describes "Baby Gets Her Lovin'" as a "really fun song I can envision everyone dancing to." "It's a honky-tonk rock song that's a whole lot of fun," Tyler explains. "It's just a quirky little love song."

He explains "Everybody Needs A Bar" as a lighthearted, feel-good song that has a different sound and different tempo from anything he's done. "It's simply about having a spot that you can go and get away and have a drink and have a good time and meet some people," he says.

"Dancin’ In The Country" was inspired by the nightly dance parties he and his wife have with their kids. He wrote the song with Jon Nite, Ross Copperman and Keith Urban.

One of the most challenging parts of the album, Tyler says, was determining which of the hundreds of songs in his catalog to record. Tyler didn't want the project to be all ballads or only up-tempos and says he "started playing Tetris with songs" to see what fit into this collection and which tracks to save for the next one. He doesn't take any of it for granted.

"To make my first solo project was really freeing," Tyler continues. "It was a season of self-exploration, self-discovery, and figuring out, 'What do I really want to say? What is my legacy?'"

Tyler’s debut solo album will be released on January 27, 2023, and will include the previously released songs “35’s” and “Way Home”, as well as all songs from Dancin’ In The Country.  This fall, he will join Keith Urban on the U.S. dates of “THE SPEED OF NOW WORLD TOUR.”
